FÒLIA Ceramics Collection. Næssi x SOTA.
FOLIA (folium, pl. FOLIA: from the Latin "leaf" but also "sheet" understood as a “surface”) is an investigation based on the manipulation of a wooden surface. A process that aims to deform the material, in this case ceramic, until it takes on new aesthetics and functions.
FOLIA, the research
“The plant world is rich in three-dimensional surfaces with formal variations and constant thickness. They are light and apparently fragile surfaces which, thanks to their folds and curvatures, take on unexpected aesthetics and great mechanical performances. Our research stems from the analysis of flat surfaces that evolve into three-dimensional shapes. For this reason we started from the observation of the three-dimensionality of flower petals and from the manipulation of the veins and oriented fibers that characterize leaves: we collected some examples, we catalogued them and cut them out. Finally we decontextualized them and rethought them in an abstract way, just like the cryptic architectural fragments, of which Rome is rich.”

FOLIA Ceramics, the collection
The limited edition FOLIA collection for Sota includes two trays and a vase characterized by a denim blue finish and a surface treatment that creates a play of coverage and transparency of the glaze on the ceramic surface.
Limited edition of 5, each piece is numbered and accompanied by an artist statement.
FOLIA Ceramics, materials and finishes
FOLIA ceramics for Sota are made with an artisanal process by Rometti Ceramiche. Each shape is created by pressing the raw material against a wooden template made specifically for it and then finished by hand. The surface finish is in ultra gloss enamel with an iridescent finish.
FOLIA Ceramics, set up at Sota
“We created a set that evokes a recurring space in the city of Rome: the place where disconnected architectural fragments interact with the ground from which spontaneous herbs and plants grow. A photograph of the moment in which the city welcomes the fragment and uses it to create new scenarios and unexpected composite architectures.
What we describe is the state of impermanence of the architecture of this city, but also the necessary impermanence of the research we carry out.”
