B!POD. Temporary store Paris, Marais.
INTRO
B!POD is a brand created to find simple solutions to complex problems and focused on the three pillars of sustainability. Science and design. The brand aims to advance sustainable development by improving integration between the planet and its inhabitants. B!POD wishes to leave a positive footprint and challenge the status quo, which is precisely why the brand's first challenge is related to the domestic application of vacuum technology. B!POD's physical products show a healthy way of using vacuum technology to preserve food in daily life by extending its life and minimizing waste.
CONCEPT AND DESIGN
For the design of B!POD's first temporary store in France, we reasoned at the conceptual level about the binomial “content + container”, drawing inspiration from the binomial “food + container” proposed by the brand's products.
For the 200-square-meter space located at 126 rue de Tourenne, in the heart of Paris's Marais district, we designed a fluid and freely explorable layout with three functional areas: Promenade, Living and Kitchen.
The Promenade is a gallery to walk through to immerse yourself in the brand narrative and get an introduction to the products.
The Living is where the reception is more relaxed, while the Kitchen is the more dynamic space where you can interact with the products and participate in workshops and product interaction activities.
At the design level, the entire space is wrapped in a system of pleated walls made of structured paper layers with flexible honeycomb geometry. They are self-supporting walls that can be modulated according to the space and they are very light and easy to transport: this will allow us new opportunities for reuse in the future. The walls create a monochrome envelope that binds all spaces by going to minimize the multiple changes in material and color of the architectural space.
Sculptural aluminum fittings define functions and epiphanies: they are self-supporting walls strategically placed in the space. Completing the walls, we designed a kit of useful accessories: horizontal shelf, inclined shelf, hook for images or merchandising, and display for books and magazines. All accessories are repositionable to create ever-changing arrangements.
The Living space is furnished with Roly Poly seating designed by Toogood for Driade, coffee tables and stools from the Bit collection designed by Simon Legald for Normann Copenhagen and composed of 100 percent recycled plastic from domestic and industrial sources.
In the Living area and in the Kitchen, moreover, small points of light define places of connection between people. For this function, we chose the aluminum Gustave lamps by Vincent Van Duysen designed for Flos.
SUSTAINABILITY
We think that the most sustainable product is one that is used for a long time and, therefore, not thrown away. For this reason, we designed a project with an infinitely reconfigurable layout, very fast to install and uninstall, and extremely flexible in all its functions.
The concept is based on a responsible use of materials, which is an essential feature for a project of this kind: for this reason we chose paper walls that are adaptable to the space and space-saving in storage (a 4 linear meter wall when closed is about 4 centimeters thick!), furniture made of natural aluminum (a lightweight and 100% recyclable material), and furnishings made of recycled plastic.
